Surface Texturing

Surface texturing allows you to create subtle 3 dimensional effects on your work.

Step 1

Apply a very heavy flowing coat as we will 'engrave' some of the coat away in step 3.

Step 2

Allow the piece to be completely dry

Step 3

Using a sharp object like a needle tool, paint brush top or bent paper clip draw designs into the dry underglaze on the piece.  Any sort of pattern will do.

Step 4

Apply another color of underglaze over the piece, using a little water in the underglaze.

Step 5

Immediately use a clean wet brush or sponge to remove the excess underglaze, allowing the remaining underglaze to go into the pattern you scratched into the base coat in step 3.

Step 6

You can repeat step 4 and 5 with different colors on different parts of your piece.  Likewise, you can repeat steps 2 through 5 as you desire.
