What is Color Me Mine?Color Me Mine is a paint-it-yourself pottery studio. We have hundreds of pieces of pottery waiting to be painted. You paint it, leave it with us and we glaze and fire it and you get it back in 5 to 7 days. Whether you are 5, 25, 55, or 105, we can help bring out the artist in you! Most importantly, you do not need to have the least bit of artistic talent to enjoy yourself at Color Me Mine.
Where is your studio? Our studio is in the Snow Circle Shops of beautiful Hyde Park Village in South Tampa. You can get exact location and directions on the Find Our Studio page. We can also come to you for parties and other events.
Do I have to be an artist to paint my own pottery? I can't draw a straight line! No! We have stencils and rubber stamps for the art-impaired. We also have a design computer with thousands of designs that you can transfer on to your pieces and paint-by-numbers! We have a design center, and a friendly helpful staff, to teach you new techniques, and we have classes to teach you everything from painting grapes and flowers, to making a mosaic trivet and wrought iron table with your own hand painted in-laid tile table top!
What can I paint? We have over 400 different pieces to paint. We have dolphins, frogs, mermaids and other figurines of every shape and size. We have plates, platters and bowls in lots of useful sizes and shapes. We have cookie jars, napkin rings, and even a miniature claw foot bathtub. From small knobs to huge vases, we have it all. We have tile tables and tea trays as well. We change our selection frequently to provide our customers with as wide a selection of bisque as we can.
Can I use this stuff?Yes! All our paints are non-toxic, lead free, and are food-safe. Children and pregnant women are perfectly safe painting in our studio since we do not use any toxic materials of any kind in our studio. Your finished piece will be dishwasher safe as well, but some keepsake items you may want to take special care of.
Why is there paper on the tables? There are a couple of very important reasons there is paper on the tables. The less important reason of the two primary reasons is to keep the mess off the table and you. The most important reason is to give you a completely free 'canvas' for your design work. Feel free to use the paper to sketch designs, test painting techniques or anything else that improves your art work.
How much does it cost?We have pieces as inexpensive as a couple of dollars for a very small tile or tag-along. We have huge platters that cost more than $50. Half of our typical inventory of 400 different items cost $15 or less. Our studio paint time fee is a flat rate (this means you can paint as long as you want - using whatever tools and supplies you need) of $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for kids 12 and under. The studio fee also includes the glazing and firing of your piece. The studio fee allows you to paint as many pieces as you wish on that day. So, say you pick a piece of bisque for $10 and an adult paints it. It will cost $20.00 plus tax. That's it! No hidden fees! Well, there is that sales tax thing we must charge. We offer specials on many weekdays as you can see from our on-line calendar. These specials can significantly reduce your cost.
Why does it cost as much as it does? You can certainly but ceramics at a store far cheaper than it costs to paint with us. We are well aware of this and do everything we can to keep our costs and the price to you as low as possible. We must handle your pieces at least 8 times after you have completed your creative and fun time with us. You can see some of this by looking at our on-line studio tour to see all the work we must take with each and every piece. The biggest reason to paint with us is to enjoy the creative experience. You are the Me in Color Me Mine and it is your experience and enjoyment that is the point. The finished ceramics is often just a great way to remember the great experience of creating it in the studio.
Can I bring my friends, co-workers, pets?Of course! The more the merrier. You don't need to make an appointment unless you are having a party of more than 6 painters. You are welcome to call us and make a reservation if you would like just to be safe. Pets can become a little overactive in the studio, so we suggest calling ahead and making an appointment with a sales associate if you want to bring Fido in for Paw Prints on a Plate! P.S. We love animals!
What can kids do at Color Me Mine?We can amuse children of all ages, including infants! You can paint your baby's feet, or your children's hands on a platter, or a coffee mug. Even the youngest child likes to play with brushes, sponges and paints. Finger painting on pieces and the table paper (but not on employees) is allowed and encouraged. We also have crayons for kids to use on the table paper if they prefer. The paints rinse off the kids and their clothes with water. Don't forget, little pre-schoolers love to make presents for Mom, Dad, and Grandparents. Even a handprint with a "I Love You" is a keepsake item!
Can you come to my school/office/party?Yes! We go to schools, restaurants, hospitals, businesses, parks. Plan it indoors or out...we love to party! See our to go page for more information. For small parties at your place, we have To-Go Kits available. Having a large party? One of our staff members can come and run a party wherever you are. Look for our Team Building specials on our Corporate Events Page as well.
Do you plan birthday and other parties? We specialize in birthday and all sorts of parties. Check out our party page on this web site. Also, we cater to all kinds of parties such as Bridal, Team Building and Sales Functions. Sales representatives love giving their clients parties at Color Me Mine!
How long do I have to wait to get my stuff?Usually a piece is available within five to seven days. Around holiday times the wait could be a little longer. For a little extra charge we will gladly ship your order anywhere in the U.S.
Do you have classes? We sure do! Our classes are designed with fun in mind. We stress relaxation and non-intimidation when it come to learning pottery painting techniques. We teach several mosaic classes. We even teach children's classes throughout the year and during summer camp. See our class page for more information.
Do you have a glossary? That's a great question. We thought you would never ask. See our glossary page for all sorts of great definitions.
